Surface\ Swift \ Ice water Rescue
Every member on Fife Lake Springfield Fire Department Is trained in water rescue and water Resuscitation. In addition we have several members trained in advanced water rescue techniques like Swift Water Rescue and Ice water rescue. These members have achieved the level of Water Rescue Technician.
Water Rescue is defined as the rescue of a patient who is afloat on the surface of a body of water.
Within Michigan, any significant sized body of water, whether in mid-summer or winter, is considered cold water. Although multiple agencies respond to such rescues, including police, fire department, and Emergency medical services, their functions, responsibilities, and level of training for such a technical rescue are quite different This supports the opinion that any individual entering the water for the purpose of rescue should be trained to the level of a Rescue Technician.
Personnel directly involved with support should be qualified to a minimum of an operations level while everyone else working in and around the scene should hold a minimum of an awareness qualification.
As with any rescue discipline, the knowledge and skill required to perform a rescue is not neatly packaged. For example, while performing a surface water rescue, a rescue team may utilize many skills that include search techniques, rope-work and rigging, emergency patient care, and a functional knowledge of confined space, swift-water, and dive recovery. Therefore, an effective rescue team will be trained with multiple technical disciplines.
Agricultural emergencies require responders to have specialized knowledge and skills to help their community prevent and protect against various emergencies and disasters and to effectively and safely respond to, manage and help in the recovery of, these varied emergencies.
Many of the disasters or emergencies may occur naturally such as floods, fires, explosions, or storm damage, chemicals, biological agents, radiologic or nuclear events, or explosions.
Vehicle extrication is the process of removing a vehicle from around a person who has been involved in a motor vehicle collision, when conventional means of exit are impossible or inadvisable. A delicate approach is needed to minimize injury to the victim during the extrication. This operation is usually accomplished by using chocks and bracing for stabilization and hydraulic tools, including the Jaws of Life
Confined space rescue is a subset of technical rescue operations that involves the rescue and recovery of victims trapped in a confined space or in a place only accessible through confined spaces, such as underground vaults, storage silos, storage tanks, or sewers.
A warning label on a storage tank, indicating that it is a confined space.Confined space rescues can be technically challenging due to the environment in which they occur. Confined spaces are often narrow and constricting, preventing easy access by rescuers. They are usually either unlit or poorly lit, so rescuers must provide their own light source. Finally, confined spaces often contain hazardous materials in liquid or gas form which can be harmful or fatal to humans.
